Attention Conservation Notice: blah blah blah’ing about getting around Tumblr’s limit of five feeds
So, apparently I setup my tumblr account in the good old days. Because since they went to Version3 they introduced limits. Such as only being able to have up to 5 rss feeds coming in. Previous to this it was unlimited.. and I had something like 13 feeds. Because I just have to have an account on every damn ‘net thing – and I wanted them all centralised in one spot. Which is what a Tumblr is awesome for. Anyway, with the limit of 5 feed set they didn’t take any of my feeds away, but I sure couldn’t add anymore. That’s despite twice following their instructions and emailing to request an increase. And 13 feeds just isn’t enough for a busy boy like m1k3y, ’cause since then I’ve of course joined other sites – like signing up on Vox to get my video’s off my phone and posting on Warren’s new board Whitechapel. And what’s the point of collecting your presence if it’s missing half your posts.
Anyway… I finally remembered my fooling around with Yahoo!Pipes, and that it had just the feature I needed – to take a whole bunch of feeds and combine them into one. So, here’s mine. You can clone it if you want and adjust to it fit. It’s actually really straight forward to create your own from scratch though – it’s just using the Feed Catcher and piping that through the Union operator to build one giant RSS Feed.
Then, I decided to get slightly trickier – a stripped down version of the Grinding feed with just my posts. Yes, to put into the above collection.
So, yeah. That’s how you get around the five feed limit. And this way you can collect all your ‘links with descriptions’ in one giant feed, and all your photos in another, etc.
